There is confusion about exactly how many residents' car parking spaces will be lost on Davitt Street if the Council plan for "traffic calming" goes ahead. The Council doesn't appear to be willing to say how many would be lost and the drawings that went out to tender are not very clear. We have attempted to count them in the drawings below.
We have sent an email to Joe McGrath, Chief Executive Officer of Tipperary County Council, asking how many residents' parking spaces would be lost under the plan. Beyond an acknowledgement of our email, no reply has yet been received. Given that this is the Council's plan, it would be reasonable to assume that the exact number would be readily available to the Council. At the time of writing we are still awaiting a response.
In the absence of a reply, the drawings that were sent out to tender were examined and the estimated lost spaces were calculated. Apologies if our calculations are inaccurate, but please remember that the Council knows the exact figure.
Area 1 in the drawings does not appear to remove car parking spaces.
Area 2
This area would appear to be losing up to 22 parking spaces.
Area 3
This area appears to overlap to an extent with Area 2 but seems to contain a further 3 lost spaces.
Area 4
This area appears to be set to lose 7 spaces.
According to our calculations, approximately 32 spaces would be lost to residents under the Council's plan. We were not able to be certain about the number and apologies if we are incorrect. However, the Council knows the correct number, but appears unwilling to announce the number.
The prevention of this loss of residents' car parking spaces is a key element of the march planned for 20 October.

The text of the email sent to the Council CEO is below:
Subject: Proposed N24 Davitt Street, Church Street, Tipperary Town Road Improvement SchemeDear Mr McGrath,I write on behalf of a group organising a protest march in Tipperary Town on 20 October. One of the issues of concern is the proposal by the Council to carry out works in the Davitt Street and Church Street area of the town that would remove a number of car parking spaces for residents of the area. Our calculation is that the various build-outs and installation of bollards will remove 39 car parking spaces. We would appreciate if you could ask someone to respond to us with the precise number of spaces that would be lost as a result of the Council’s proposed works. Given that detailed plans have been prepared, we imagine that the response to our request for information should present no difficulty for the Council. In the interests of transparency, this correspondence, along with any response(s), will be published on the www.tipptown.ie and social media. As this is a matter of grave concern for the residents and the broader community of the town, we would appreciate a prompt reply.RegardsPadraig Culbert
